Description

This Banana Bread Latte recipe combines the comforting flavors of ripe bananas, maple syrup, and cinnamon with rich espresso or coffee, served iced or hot. It features a homemade banana syrup that adds a natural sweetness and depth of flavor, complemented by creamy milk and optional vanilla maple cold foam for an indulgent coffee experience inspired by banana bread.

Ingredients

Banana Syrup

  • 2 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Latte

  • 2 tbsp banana syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1-2 shots espresso or ½ cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)
  • ¾ cup milk or non-dairy milk
  • Ice (for iced latte)

Vanilla Maple Cold Foam (Optional)

  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup

Garnish (Optional)

  • Banana slices
  • Cinnamon
  • Maple drizzle

Instructions

  1. Make Homemade Banana Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine mashed bananas, maple syrup, water, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Simmer over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the mixture slightly thickens. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let cool slightly.
  2. Strain Syrup: Pour the cooled syrup through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove solids and achieve a smooth syrup. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  3. Prepare Iced Banana Latte: Add 2 tablespoons of banana syrup to a glass filled with ice. Pour in espresso or strong brewed coffee, followed by milk or non-dairy milk. Stir well to combine or shake in a cocktail shaker for extra froth. Garnish with banana slices, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.
  4. Prepare Hot Banana Latte: Heat milk until warm and frothy using a milk frother or stovetop warming. In a mug, combine banana syrup and espresso, then pour in steamed milk. Stir to blend and optionally top with a sprinkle of cinnamon or foam from the frothed milk.
  5. Make Vanilla Maple Cold Foam (Optional): In a small jar or milk frother, combine heavy cream, vanilla bean paste or extract, and maple syrup. Froth until thick and creamy but still pourable. Spoon over iced banana latte or cold brew coffee for a luxurious finish.

Notes

  • The banana syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Adjust the amount of banana syrup in the latte to suit your preferred sweetness level.
  • Use non-dairy milk alternatives like oat, almond, or soy milk for a vegan-friendly drink.
  • For a stronger banana flavor, let the banana syrup simmer a little longer to concentrate the flavors, but avoid burning.
  • The vanilla maple cold foam adds richness but can be omitted for a lighter drink.
