Ingredients
Spice Mix
- 1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Potatoes
- 2-3 medium potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for potatoes)
Beef Mixture
- 500 grams lean beef mince/ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)
- Half of the spice mix (from above, reserved for beef)
Salad and Toppings
- Lettuce (shredded)
- Cheese (dairy-free or regular, as preferred)
- Pickle slices
Burger Sauce
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
- 1 teaspoon pickle juice (from the jar of pickles)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
- Prepare the spice mix: In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano or mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.
- Prep potatoes: Wash and cut the potatoes into chip-sized pieces. Pat them dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Season and cook potatoes: Place the potato chips in a large mixing bowl, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and half of the spice mix. Toss thoroughly to coat the potatoes evenly. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30 to 40 minutes until golden and crispy. Alternatively, air fry the potatoes for about 20 minutes until crispy.
- Cook the beef: While the potatoes are cooking, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Once browned, sprinkle in the remaining half of the spice mix. Continue cooking until the beef darkens and any extra moisture evaporates, ensuring a well-cooked, flavorful mince.
- Make the burger sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir well, taste, and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Assemble the bowls: Divide the cooked crispy potatoes among serving bowls. Fill the remaining space in each bowl with shredded lettuce. Top with the cooked beef, cheese slices or shreds, and pickle slices. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce over the top and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute regular potatoes with sweet potatoes for a different flavor profile.
- Use dairy-free cheese to keep the recipe lactose-free and suitable for vegans if dairy-free mayonnaise is used.
- To reduce sodium, adjust the amount of salt in the spice mix and use low-sodium mayonnaise and ketchup.
- Air frying reduces cooking time and oil usage for the potatoes.
- Ensure potatoes are well dried before cooking to get them crispy.
- Leftover burger sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
