Ingredients
Bread and Butter Mixture
- 1 loaf crusty bread (sourdough or Italian)
- 8 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
Cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Dipping Sauce
- 1 cup marinara sauce (or pizza sauce for dipping)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the cheese bread.
- Prepare the Bread: Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the loaf diagonally into 1-inch thick slices without cutting all the way through the bottom. Then turn the loaf a quarter turn and slice again to form a diamond grid pattern. Place the scored loaf on a piece of foil atop a baking sheet.
- Make Garlic Butter and Stuff Bread: Melt the butter in a small saucepan and stir in the garlic powder. Using a pastry brush, generously coat the inside of the bread cuts with the melted garlic butter. Stuff the cracks between the slices with shredded mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Wrap and Bake: Wrap the loaf tightly in the foil to retain moisture and place it on the baking sheet. Bake the loaf wrapped for 30 minutes to melt the cheese thoroughly and infuse the garlic butter flavor.
- Finish Baking Unwrapped: Unwrap the top of the foil to expose the bread, then bake an additional 10 minutes to allow the top layer of cheese to brown slightly and the crust to crisp up.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately, accompanied with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping, making a perfect appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Use a serrated knife to avoid crushing the bread while slicing.
- Stuff the cheese gently to prevent the bread from falling apart.
- For extra flavor, add finely chopped fresh rosemary or oregano to the garlic butter.
- Serve warm for the best melty cheese experience.
- Leftovers can be reheated wrapped in foil at 350°F for 10 minutes.
