Description

Cheese Roll-Ups are a quick and delicious snack or light meal featuring soft bread rolled around melted cheese and pan-fried to golden perfection. With crispy buttery edges and gooey cheesy centers, they’re easy to prepare and perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 6 slices of bread

Cheese

  • 1 cup thinly shredded cheese (cheddar, American, or your choice)

Butter

  • 1 tablespoon of butter

Instructions

  1. Trim bread: Using a knife, carefully cut the crusts off each slice of bread to create soft, pliable pieces perfect for rolling.
  2. Roll bread flat: Flatten each slice of crustless bread using a rolling pin or the bottom of a glass until thin and even, making them easier to roll tightly.
  3. Add cheese: Spread a generous amount of shredded cheese evenly over the flattened bread slices. You can use thinly shredded cheese or slices like American cheese for smooth melting.
  4. Roll up tightly: Starting at one end, roll the bread slices tightly around the cheese. Secure each roll-up with toothpicks if needed to hold their shape during cooking.
  5. Heat skillet with butter: Place a skillet over medium to medium-low heat and add the tablespoon of butter. Allow it to melt and coat the pan evenly.
  6. Cook roll-ups: Place the cheese roll-ups seam side down in the skillet. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, turning periodically with tongs to brown all sides evenly and melt the cheese inside.
  7. Serve: Remove the roll-ups from the skillet, cut them in half if desired, and serve immediately while warm and gooey.

Notes

  • Use any cheese that melts well such as cheddar, American, or mozzarella for best results.
  • Make sure not to overheat the pan to avoid burning the butter or bread.
  • To keep roll-ups secure, toothpicks are helpful especially if you prefer a tight roll.
  • This recipe is perfect for a quick snack or light lunch and can be customized with herbs or spices.
