Description
Taco pinwheel appetizers are a fun and flavorful twist on a classic favorite. These bite-sized snacks are packed with savory ingredients and perfect for any party, game day, or even as a quick snack.
Ingredients
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 packet taco seasoning mix
1 can (4 ounces) diced green chilies, drained
1 cup cooked and crumbled ground beef or turkey
4 large flour tortillas (10 inches)
1 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, taco seasoning, and diced green chilies. Stir the ingredients together until well blended. Fold in the cooked ground beef or turkey until evenly mixed.
- Lay a flour tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spread a generous layer of the taco mixture over the tortilla, leaving a ½-inch border along all sides. Roll the tortilla tightly like a jelly roll, ensuring the filling stays intact. Repeat the process with the remaining tortillas and filling.
- Wrap each rolled tortilla in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This chilling period is essential as it helps the flavors meld together and makes it much easier to slice the pinwheels into neat, even pieces.
- After chilling, unwrap the tortillas from the plastic wrap. Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 1-inch pinwheels. Arrange the slices on a serving platter and garnish with chopped cilantro if desired for a fresh touch.
Notes
- This recipe makes about 32 pinwheel slices, depending on how thick you slice them.
- You can make these ahead of time, just make sure to refrigerate them in plastic wrap until you’re ready to slice and serve.
- For a spicier version, try adding diced jalapeños, a dash of hot sauce, or use spicy taco seasoning.
- These pinwheels can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- If you prefer to serve them warm, reheat them gently in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds.
