Description

This Honey Garlic Sauce recipe features crispy air-fried tofu coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce. The tofu is seasoned with a blend of spices, air-fried to perfection for a crispy texture, and then tossed in a homemade honey garlic sauce made with honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Ingredients

For the Tofu:

  • 14 ounces extra firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Cooking spray

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup honey (can add more if desired)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Lay the tofu in the center of a clean thin dishtowel and gently press to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into approximately 1 x 1 inch pieces to ensure even cooking.
  2. Season the Tofu: Place the tofu pieces in a large bowl or a large ziplock bag. Add the corn starch, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and salt. Toss or seal and shake the bag until the tofu is completely coated with the seasoning blend.
  3. Air Fry the Tofu: Spray the basket of the air fryer with cooking spray and arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer. Optionally, line the basket with air fryer parchment paper for easy clean-up. Spray the tops of the tofu with cooking spray as well. Set the air fryer to 360°F and cook for 18 minutes total, shaking the basket after 10 minutes to ensure even cooking, then rearranging the tofu in a single layer before continuing the cook.
  4. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: While the tofu cooks, combine chicken broth, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and ground ginger in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, stirring frequently until the flavors meld together, about 5 minutes.
  5. Thicken the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together water and cornstarch to form a slurry. Pour this into the simmering sauce and continue to simmer for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens to a glaze-like consistency.
  6. Toss Tofu in Sauce: Once the tofu is done air frying and crispy, place it in a bowl with half a cup of the prepared honey garlic sauce and toss to coat each piece evenly.
  7. Serve: Plate the tofu and drizzle with additional honey garlic sauce as desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful dish!
