Description

These Stuffed Wonton Bites are irresistibly crispy and filled with a luscious cream cheese and strawberry mixture. Perfect as a sweet appetizer or dessert, they combine the flaky texture of fried wontons with a creamy, fruity filling that will delight your taste buds.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup strawberry jam or preserves
  • Fresh strawberries, diced (optional)

Wontons

  • 20-24 wonton wrappers
  • Water, for sealing the edges

Frying

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Serving

  • Whipped cream (for serving)
  • Extra strawberry jam or sauce (for serving)
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy, creating a rich and flavorful base for the wontons.
  2. Add strawberry flavor: Incorporate a small dollop of strawberry jam into the center of each portion of filling, or mix diced fresh strawberries into the cream cheese mixture to enhance texture and taste.
  3. Assemble the wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling into its center, ensuring an even distribution for every bite.
  4. Seal the wontons: Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold it over the filling to form a triangle or envelope shape. Press firmly to seal tightly and eliminate air bubbles to avoid splattering when frying.
  5. Repeat assembly: Continue filling and sealing the remaining wonton wrappers until all filling is used up.
  6. Heat the oil: In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), ideal for frying to a crisp texture.
  7. Fry the wontons: Carefully fry the wontons in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy, taking care not to overcrowd the pan for even cooking.
  8. Drain excess oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried wontons and place them on paper towels to absorb any remaining oil, keeping them crispy and light.
  9. Serve: Serve the warm wonton bites with whipped cream, extra strawberry jam or sauce for dipping, and fresh strawberry slices on the side for a beautiful and delicious presentation.

Notes

  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to avoid lumps in the filling.
  • Take care to seal the wontons properly to prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
  • The frying temperature should be maintained to ensure the wontons are crispy and not greasy.
  • For added flavor, you can mix diced strawberries into the filling or use different fruit preserves as alternatives.
  • Serve immediately for best texture, as wontons may lose crispiness if left to sit.
