Description

Buttery, crisp, and perfectly sweet, these Traditional German Spritz Cookies (Spritzgebäck) are a holiday classic! Made with a simple dough, these cookies are light, delicate, and utterly irresistible. Whether you’re baking for a festive occasion or just treating yourself, this German Spritz Cookies recipe will quickly become a favorite.

Ingredients

1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or almond extract for a different flavor)

2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour, sifted

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract (or almond extract), mixing until well combined. Gradually add the sifted flour and a pinch of salt, mixing until the dough is smooth.

Shape the Cookies: Use a cookie press or piping bag to pipe the dough into your desired shapes on parchment-lined baking sheets.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes, or until they are lightly golden around the edges.

Cool: Let the cookies cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Butter Quality: For the best flavor and texture, use high-quality unsalted butter.

Decoration: For extra flair, decorate your cookies with colorful sprinkles before baking, or dip them in chocolate after they have cooled.

Dough Tip: If the dough is too stiff to pipe, let it soften slightly at room temperature for easier handling.
